Location
The Greyhound is on Henley Road, about ten minutes walk north of Ipswich town centre and adjacent to Christchurch Park. There is parking for a limited number of cars in the pub car park. After 6pm you can park on Anglesea Road. There is also a public car park in Charles Street, off High Street.
But let's admit it, you'd rather leave the car at home so you can enjoy our Adnams beers, wines and spirits!
Christchurch Park
Extending over 33 hectares of picturesque grounds right in the heart of Ipswich, Christchurch Park has a rich and fascinating history dating back as far as the 12th century and provides the setting for many listed structures including memorials, drinking fountains, shelters and an icehouse. Charles II is said to have played bowls in Christchurch Park in 1662 and it was the first public park in Ipswich opening in 1895. The park is a designated County Wildlife site, is in a conservation area and is on the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens of special historic interest. Christchurch Mansion is of Tudor origin and contains works of art by Suffolk-born artists such as John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough. Admission is free and the mansion is open Monday through Sunday 10am until 5pm.
Ipswich Museum
Within 5 minutes of leaving the Greyhound you could be looking at a Woolly Mammoth, fossils or an Egyptian Mummy in the Ipswich Museum. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm, entry is free. There are also baby changing facilities and a gift shop. Ask one of our staff to point you in the right direction.
The Wolsey Theatre and Wolsey Studio
We have very strong links with the Wolsey Theatre and the actors can often be seen enjoying meals on rehearsal days or after-show drinks on performance nights. Situated within a 15 minute walking distance, the Wolsey Theatre can seat 400 people and has a programme of drama, music, children’s shows, comedy, poetry and dance. Closer to us is the New Wolsey Studio, that is a smaller venue and the main venue for performances associated with the Pulse Fringe Festival that takes place during June each year. Visitors to any of the Pulse events are able to receive a discount off their meal at the Greyhound by producing their ticket stubs.
Ipswich Town Football Club, Portman Road
Although we do not show football games on a television within the pub we are supported by football fans prior to home games and have a special menu of quick snacks running alongside our specials. Unfortunately our car park will not accommodate too many cars but we suggest that fans try to park in some of the non-permit parking residential areas close to us, pop in for a quick bite to eat and then walk down to the ground (which should take no more than 15 minutes)!
